Bio
Slagwerkensemble Appingedam is made up of enthusiastic and ambitious
musicians from Appingedam and the surrounding areas. In addition to the
Percussion Ensemble, the association also includes a youth ensemble (Jong SEA)
and a melodic ensemble. The percussionists from Appingedam have a special gift
for creating warm sounds and evoking deep emotions, winning the hearts of both
audiences and juries time and time again. The ensemble competes in the highest
division and regularly returns home with first prizes or honorary awards. For their
participation in the World Music Contest (WMC) in Kerkrade, the ensemble seeks to
distinguish itself by choosing a theme that is close to its members' hearts. Almost
all members live in the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the Wadden. This
beautiful and vulnerable area deserves more attention, and Slagwerkensemble
Appingedam is eager to contribute to raising its profile. To do so, the ensemble has
deliberately selected composers from the North who have a strong connection to
the Wadden region — composers who know the landscape and can capture the
feeling of the Wadden Sea in music. The ensemble also believes it is important to
offer a platform to young, talented composers.
