Bio

The Sabaneta Symphonic Band “Juan David Castaño Arango” (JDCA) is part of the
showcase ensembles of the “La Barquereña” House of Culture and has been
promoting young musical talent in Sabaneta for over 30 years. Its work focuses on
training, artistic development, and cultural outreach. The band has earned top
prizes at national competitions in Paipa, Tocancipá, Anapoima, and San Pedro de
los Milagros, as well as in regional contests throughout Antioquia. Internationally, it
has represented Colombia at prestigious events such as the International Band
Competition in Valencia (Spain), the International Youth Orchestras and Bands
Meeting in Buenos Aires (Argentina), and the ¡BLAIR! International Band Festival at
Vanderbilt University (USA). It has also participated in academic forums like the
International Congress of Band Music and the Clari-Sax Festival. Its artistic
production includes premieres of original repertoire, the Fruko Sinfónico DVD, and
the Latin Grammy-nominated album Panamericano, recorded with the Barcelona
Clarinet Players. The band has collaborated with renowned figures such as Thomas
Verrier, Rubén Darío Gómez, Arturo Márquez, and Paquito D’Rivera. The JDCA
Band is currently conducted by Colombian maestro Hugo A. Riaño.
