Bio
Slagwerkensemble Elspeet, part of the Elspeets Fanfarekorps, consists of 21
enthusiastic members and has been conducted by Wibrand van Norel for the past
25 years. During this time, the ensemble has competed in the highest national
division, achieving several championships and top-three placements. Highlights
include Dutch Championships in 2007 and 2023, and second runner-up at the World
Music Contest in 2005, 2017, and 2022. The ensemble strives to innovate and lead
within the percussion world, often through collaborations with other musical and
cultural disciplines. Performances focus not only on musical quality but also on
strong visual elements, creating a "general effect" that appeals to a broad audience.
A vibrant youth division is also part of the ensemble, having won an impressive nine
Dutch titles. These young musicians form the foundation for future innovation and
success. Many artistic innovations developed by the ensemble—especially during
preparations for the WMC—have been widely adopted in the sector. The group
continually seeks young composers and creators, offering a platform for emerging
talent across various art forms.
