Unió Musical Lira Borriolenca
Wind Bands 2nd division
Bio
Since 1886, there is documented evidence of a musical group in the town of Borriol.
In 1944, Ramón Sala Fontserè took over and led the band until 2000, when Josep
Miquel Martínez Giménez succeeded him. The young history of Lira Borriolenca
includes its first competition participation in the 25th Provincial Band Contest of
Castelló in 2002. In 2005, they competed in the International Contest in Val d’Aosta,
Italy, winning first prize in the second section, an honorary mention, and the highest
score award across all categories. In 2007, they celebrated their 10th anniversary
with commemorative events, highlighted by winning first prize in the third category
at the Castelló Provincial Band Contest. In 2011, they earned a well-deserved
second prize in the second section at the same contest. From February 2017, under
the artistic direction of Àngel Martínez Cruz, the band gained a renewed musical
vision, continuing its growth in the Valencian band scene. In 2018, after seven
years without competing, they won first prize in the 41st Castelló Provincial Contest
in the third section. In 2025, under Martínez Cruz’s baton, the band achieved its
highest-ever score with first prize in the 46th Provincial Contest, second section.
