Showband KDO Groessen
Show Contests 2nd division
Bio
Showband KDO Groessen was founded in August 1966 and swiftly distinguished
itself by combining music with show and choreography, performing accessible,
popular marching arrangements. Soon, the band became a welcome guest at street
and flower parades and began organizing its own tattoo performances. The addition
of a large majorette group expanded both its repertoire and recognition, in The
Netherlands as well as abroad. In 1984, KDO was promoted to the premier division
of the former K.N.F. — a remarkable accomplishment for a band from such a small
village. Under the leadership of an ambitious board and instructors like Hans
Verhoeks, KDO flourished again in the early 2000s, returning to show performances
and setting a new standard of teamwork, discipline, and continuous growth. Two
yearly, KDO organizes Taptoe Groessen, featuring top-level bands and an ever
growing audience — proof of how small associations can achieve big things. In
2026, KDO celebrates its 60th anniversary. Led by conductor and show instructor
Ferdi van Maanen, and drum major Maarten Degen, the nearly 40-member band
prepares for its first-ever World Music Contest appearance with the show “(It’s) All
About Water”. Energetic, confident, and unmistakably joyful, KDO proves that
humble beginnings can lead to great performances.
