Bio
The Show- Marching- and Concertband Flora Band, founded on 1 August 1968 in
Rijnsburg, Netherlands, began as a drum-and-trumpet corps and evolved into a full
brass show, marching and concert band. Today it comprises around 50 musicians
aged 15 to 55 and is known for its English-style uniforms, high-energy shows, and
distinctive brass sound. The band regularly performs at national events as well as
abroad — participating in major tattoos in Delft, Rotterdam Ahoy, Birmingham and
Luzern. Another major highlight: in 2017 they won the highest division in the
“marching” category at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade. Through a mix of
disciplined rehearsal, strong community spirit and ambitious performances, Flora
Band has established itself as one of the Netherlands’ leading show-and-marching
bands. The Flora Band remains active today under musical leadership of conductor
Gerben Kralt and percussion instructor Robert van den Bosch. Both instructors
started their musical careers at the “Jong Flora Band” junior program. The team
handling choreography and drill instruction, consist of Peter Schoneveld, Stephen
van den Bosch and Robert van Es. Today the Flora Band is led by drum major
Gerard Hoogenraad.
