Bio
Founded in 2000, Festival Brass Band began as a bold initiative by passionate
musicians determined to chart their own course. Their ambitions were immediately
evident, securing 3rd place in the Championship Division at the Belgian National
Championships in their founding year. In 2006, renowned trumpeter Manu Mellaerts
became Artistic Director, leading the band back to the European spotlight. A major
milestone followed in 2008 with their first Belgian National title, earning the honor of
representing Belgium at the 2009 European Brass Band Championships in Ostend.
Steven Verhaert took the baton as Musical Director in 2015, ushering in a new era
of progress. Under his leadership, the band achieved Vice Champion titles in 2018,
2019, and 2023, and secured its first international victory at the 2019 Dutch Open
Brass Band Championships in Drachten. In 2022, Festival Brass Band won its
second national title, qualifying for the 2023 European Championships in Malmö. In
2025, Guy Audenaert was appointed resident conductor, with a clear mission: to
further elevate the band’s artistic level, deliver top-tier concert and contest
performances, and help shape a strong, sustainable future for Festival Brass Band.
