Australia Brass was established in 1995 by John and 'Digger' Thomas. For the first
time in 70 years a truly 'National' Band was once again established in Australia.
Since 1951 no Australian band has ever attended the prestigious The World Music
Contest (WMC) festival and represented Australia at this event and now for the first
time Australia Brass will attend this world class event featuring Australian culture,
indigenous music, repertoire and artists who perform regularly on the world stage. In
total, only 4 intercontinental and 9 European bands will be invited to participate in
the elite 'Concert Division'. In 2025 Matthew reformed the National Band of Australia
'Australia Brass', which was first established in 1995. The band comprises 35 of the
finest brass and percussion players throughout Australia, who represent over 25
individual community organisations throughout all States of Australia. Matthew will
be conducting the 35 piece brass and percussion team which will be featuring local
composers and soloists, featuring a strong Australian element of repertoire, A life
changing experience in 2026.
