Bio
The Stadtkapelle Lahr association has been in existence since 1871. In 1925, the
town of Lahr recognised the special achievements of the band by awarding it the
title of ‘Stadtkapelle’. The main orchestra is the flagship of the association. It
currently consists of around 70 musicians who value and cultivate music-making as
a hobby. We have been playing symphonic brass music at a high level for many
years at countless concerts, radio broadcasts and competitions at home and
abroad. Highlights have included successful participation in national music festivals,
several association competitions and the Flicorno d'oro in 1999, 2001 and most
recently in 2022 in Riva del Garda. Our annual concert highlight in the calendar is a
gala concert in October. Other dates in the calendar include entertainment
performances such as our traditional Mother's Day concert in our beautiful Lahr city
park, guest appearances at friendly clubs and various special concerts, such as
symphonic church concerts. Since May 2015, the orchestra has been under the
successful direction of music teacher, conductor and professional musician Music
Director Nicholas Reed. He is a lecturer in percussion and ensemble conducting at
the Freiburg University of Music and at the music academies in Basel and Zurich
(ZHdK).
