Soonwaldorchester e. V.
Harmonieorkest 1e divisie
Bio
The “Soonwaldorchester e.V.” was established in 1956. Since 1969, the orchestra
has taken part in competitions organized by the district and state music associations
of Rhineland-Palatinate. The Soonwaldorchester e.V. has competed in the
advanced level and received the rating “very good” each time. Its first international
contest was at the WMC Kerkrade 2005. Since 1987, the orchestra has organized
an annual concert, usually performing literature of grade 5. In 2017, Sebastian
Lastein became the conductor of the orchestra — a young, highly talented
professional conductor. With his exceptionally transparent conducting, great
musical sensitivity and distinctive pedagogical skills, he has led our musicians to
new heights of achievement, as demonstrated at the German National Music
Festival (“Deutsches Musikfest”) in 2019, where we competed in the superior
category and received the highest rating “With Outstanding Success.” At the WMC
2022 in Kerkrade, the orchestra achieved the highest score in the 3rd division,
winning a world championship title. The jurors remarked that the orchestra should
have played in a higher category, which is why we applied for the First Division this
time. At the “Flicorno d’Oro 2024” competition in Riva, the orchestra won third place
in the highest category, “Categoria Eccellenza.
