Bio

Excelsior Oostendorp – Percussion with Character and Class Percussion group
Excelsior Oostendorp was founded in 1965 by Wim van Norel and has since been a
leading name in Dutch percussion. In 2026, the group aims to participate in the
World Music Contest (WMC) for the eighth time. After four appearances in the
marching competition, this will be their fourth entry in the concert championships.
Based in the small Veluwe village of Oostendorp, the group is an active part of the
local community, regularly performing at regional events. On a national level,
Excelsior has achieved great success in competitions such as the ONSK and the
Dutch Championships, earning multiple titles in the highest divisions. Excelsior
places a strong emphasis on youth development through a high-quality training
program. The B-percussion group, consisting of twenty dedicated young members,
serves as a stepping stone to the A-group. Passion, fun, and performance are
central to the group’s culture. Excelsior continues to push musical boundaries and
explores connections with other musical genres. For WMC 2026, the ensemble is
preparing a powerful program based on the theme “Vikings.” The group is currently
under the dynamic leadership of conductor Tim van Klompenburg. WMC 2026
promises to be another musical highlight for Excelsior Oostendorp.
