Koninklijke Harmonie Sint Martinus Opgrimbie
Harmonie 1e divisie
Bio
Founded in 1926, our band has a rich history in Opgrimbie, a small town in the
village of Maasmechelen. The region is well known for its tradition in wind band
music and we are one of the many music associations in the area. During our last
participation in the World Music Contest in 2017 we became vice-world champion
with a stunning score of 95,33%. More recently, we received a 2nd Prize at the
Flemish Open Wind Band Competition (2023) and at the International Band
Competition “Flicorno d’Oro” in Excellence Category (2025). In 2024 we were
invited by the cultural centre of Maasmechelen for a unique collaboration in
performing “Carmina Burana” together with 200 singers on stage, 4 professional
soloists and more than 1000 spectators. In 2026 we will return to the WMC to
celebrate the 100-year anniversary of our association. With a jubilee program
throughout the whole year, we consider our 3rd participation in the World Music
Contest to be one of the highlights. For this occasion we commissioned Bert
Appermont, who was conductor of our band from 2012-2016, to compose our piece
of own choice, which will be premièred during our performance in Kerkrade.
