musical roots dating back to 1843. During the World Music Contest of 2017, the
orchestra achieved second place in the second division, with a stunning score of
95.33 points. The Koninklijk Harmonieorkest Kerkrade has a great social
significance in providing a meaningful connection within the local community. It
contributes to musical and social connections across generations and actively
participates in communal activities within the city of Kerkrade. The orchestra
honours the local musical traditions, while contributing to the contemporary
evolution of wind music. One of the two predecessors of the Koninklijk
Harmonieorkest Kerkrade, Harmonie Sint Pancratius Nulland, was one of the
founding fathers of the first World Music Contest in 1951. The Koninklijk
Harmonieorkest Kerkrade has a strong social base, meaning that each member is
responsible for active participation. The wind band serves as an ambassador for
music and social connectedness in Klankstad Kerkrade.
