Harmonieorkest 1e divisie
Bio
Harmonie St. Cecilia Grevenbicht-Papenhoven United in Harmony Harmonie St.
Cecilia is a vibrant music association from the village of Grevenbicht-Papenhoven in
the Dutch province of Limburg. Founded in 1900, the association includes a concert
band, percussion ensemble, two youth orchestras, a marching band, and several
smaller ensembles. In 2025, it celebrates its 125th anniversary. The concert band
consists of around 95 musicians who combine youthful energy with musical
dedication. Under conductor Jos Simons, the orchestra has become a close-knit
and ambitious group that values artistic development and social engagement. The
band actively seeks connection—across generations, musical styles, audiences,
and its community. Recent years have seen the orchestra focus on diverse and
adventurous programming, blending original works with transcriptions, jazz, film
music, and collaborations with choirs and soloists. Highlights include a performance
at the Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, a festival concert honoring the River
Meuse, and partnerships with soloists from the Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra
and WDR Big Band. A milestone came in 2022, when the orchestra earned 94
points at the World Music Contest in Kerkrade and was named world champion in
the First Division for wind bands. St. Cecilia also plays an active cultural role locally,
with music education and youth development at its core.
