Bio
Brass band “Aukšty” (“Up”) has been founded in 2007 in Naujamiestis - a small
town in Panevezys region, Lithuania. This region is famous for having a first ever
brass band in Lithuania created in 1998. At this time there are 12 youth brass bands
in the region. Aukštyn is in collaboration with conductors and musicians from
Friesland (The Netherlands), England, Wales (United Kingdom). The band plays
academic, sacral, rock, jazz and other various music, organizes master classes,
summer band camps. Brass band Aukstyn has had concerts in Latvia, Estonia, Italy,
Sweden, The Netherlands and Poland. Also actively promotes brass band tradition
and expansion in Lithuania and neighboring countries. The band has participated in
the WMC Young generation project in 2017 and was awarded a gold medal,
becoming champions in 2024. The founders of this band are conductor Remigijus
Vilys (LT) and Piet Visser (NL). At the European Youth Brass Band Championship,
the band ranked 2nd in the Development Section in 2018 and 2019, 3rd in 2024,
and 2nd in 2025.
