Bio
The Youth Symphonic Band Saint George's School, conducted by Maestro Omar
Andrés Cifuentes Gil, is made up of 78 students from both primary and secondary
school. Its training combines curricular classes with extracurricular activities,
fostering both artistic and technical development. Since 2012, the wind band has
built a solid track record in national competitions, earning important awards. Among
its achievements are first places in the District Wind Band Festivals organized by
the Bogotá Philharmonic Orchestra (2015, 2016, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023,
2024, and 2025), as well as recognitions in national wind band contests such as
Paipa, Anapoima, and Tocancipá. The wind band has received distinctions such as
Best Original Composition, Best Trumpet Section, Best Percussionist, and awards
for the interpretation of tribute works. In 2025, the wind band was invited by the
Supreme Court of Justice to perform as the central ensemble at the Second
Environmental Justice Conference. Thanks to its artistic excellence and the
leadership of Maestro Cifuentes, the Banda Sinfónica Juvenil del Colegio San Jorge
de Inglaterra has established itself as one of the most outstanding youth wind
bands in the country, promoting the symphonic wind band tradition and proudly
representing Bogotá.
