Bio
The A-Slagwerk Ensemble of Soli Deo Gloria (SDG) Ommen is a vibrant and well
respected percussion group in the Dutch amateur music scene. What began as a
drum band in 1960, the ensemble has evolved into an all-round percussion group
under the leadership of conductor Simon Haakmeester since 2018. The group,
made up of enthusiastic percussionists, is known for its impressive performances
and strong dedication to music. The ensemble has achieved significant titles,
including two World Championship titles at the World Music Contest (WMC) in
Kerkrade and a vice-world champion title. Notably, in 2019, they secured the Open
Dutch Percussion Championship in the top class with a remarkable score of 95.5
points. Their music covers everything from classic chorales to modern pieces,
highlighting their creativity and skill. Beyond competitions, the A-Slagwerk
Ensemble actively participates in concerts, church services, and parades,
contributing richly to the cultural life of the City of Ommen and beyond. As they
prepare for the upcoming WMC in 2026, the ensemble continues to uphold its
tradition of musical excellence and community engagement, embodying the spirit
and passion that define SDG Ommen.
