The United Harriet Colliery Band is a young, ambitious band that was founded in September 2019 in Dortmund, Germany. Supported by the university “TU Dortmund”, its purpose was to introduce music students of brass instruments to the colourful world of brass band music, but it quickly developed to be a locally favourite band. Musicians from all over North-Rhine-Westfalia regularly come to participate in the rehearsals of the United Harriet Colliery Band in Dortmund. The band’s artistic director is Harry Vorselen, who already led the “Junge Studentische Bläserphilharmonie" to win a gold medal with distinction in the World Music Contest in 2017. From 2019 until today, the United Harriet Colliery Band successfully performed several concerts, which contained a huge variety of works from many different genres and grades, like "The Triumph of Piece" by Eric Ball or "Oceans" by Goff Richards. The greatest success of the band was the performance of the complete six-movement suite "Hymn of the Highlands" by Philipp Sparke. The Band also collaborated with the Glenn-Buschmann-Jazz-Academy in Dortmund and the JJK Prague with their leaders Uwe Plath and Milan Svoboda for a joint concert program.
