About GBG The Gereformeerde Brassband Groningen (GBG) is an orchestra consisting of about 30 musicians (wind and percussion) and has been conducted since 2009 by conductor Jan Werkman. Every year they participate in the Dutch Brass Band Championships (NBK) and various concerts are given at home and abroad. Results At the NBK (Dutch Brass Band Championships) the GBG achieved a 3rd place in 2012 and after two 2nd places in 2013 and 2014, the title in the 3rd division was won in 2016. In 2017 the GBG became World Champion in the 3rd division during the four-yearly World Music Competition in Kerkrade and a 2nd place was achieved during the NBK. Since 2018, the GBG has been playing in the 2nd division. In 2019, the GBG became Dutch Champion in this division during the NBK. History Driving forces behind the establishment were Menno Bol and Taeke van der Hoek. Both were members of the Bedumer fanfare 'Harpe Davids' at the time. Together they went looking for an extra challenge: founding an association with more opportunities to grow musically. An ad was placed to attract interested musicians from across the province. And it worked. Rehearsals are held in the city of Groningen.
