WMC Kerkrade will feature its second Biennial from the 28th till the 30th of October and 11th till the 13th of November 2016. During both weekends various ensembles will be tutored by internationally renowned specialists, in order to improve their quality and widen their range of activities. New during this Biennial is the Ensemble Competition for top amateur, student and professional ensembles which will conclude the Biennial on Sunday the 13th of November.
During the first weekend there will be a slight focus on brass, because of the presence of Berlin Philharmonic Brass, who will be performing on Saturday the 29th of October at the Parkstad Limburg Theater in Heerlen. Several members of the Berlin Philharmonic Brass will also function as tutors for the Wind Music Academy. The second weekend will have a slight focus on woodwind ensembles because two members of the famous Calefax reed quintet will be giving classes. The presence of Arno Bornkamp (saxophone), Ralph Manno (clarinet), Jörgen van Rijen (trombone) and Maarten Dekker (oboe) will complete the group of instructors during both weekends. The Artistic Leader of the Biennial is Jan Cober.
